Otley TT wins for Wolstenholme and Picking
Mark Wolstenholme sealed victory as fastest male in a hotly-contested Otley CC 10-mile time trial in Yorkshire on Saturday afternoon, with quickest female going to Hebe Picking.
Swift Racing’s Wolstenholme was almost a minute ahead of the field in 21-07, however places two to four were separated by just two seconds in an incredibly close finish.
Zurbaran Racing’s John Hewison clinched the runners-up spot in 22-02, a second ahead of Stuart Henderson (Team Bottrill) in 22-03, while Clifton CC York’s Elliot Fraser was edged out of the podium places after finishing another second back in 22-04.
Wolstenholme now has his first victory since winning the Ravensthorpe eight-mile time trial in May last year, in what is just his second race of the 2023 campaign.
Having not started at the Darlington CC 25-mile time trial on April 2, his first completed race saw him finish fifth at City Road Club (Hull) 10-mile time trial in a time of 21-06.
The women’s event saw Picking clock 26-00 on her way to success, beating Gretchen Zoeller of VTTA Yorkshire whose time of 27-33 helped her overcome Sandra Burrows (Vive Le Velo) in 28-57.
This 10-mile event, run on the V212 course, starts south of Boroughbridge in the entrance to the A168, and turns left to proceed southbound until the Walshford roundabout, encircling the roundabout and retracing the A168 to Arkendale Road and finishing just north of the start.
