James Boyman (Farnham RC) took victory with a new course record at the Newbury RC 15-mile event near Padworth in Berkshire, winning by a comfortable margin from runner-up Philip Watts (North Hampshire RC) in warm conditions on Saturday.

The win came after Boyman, who smashed the previous course record by a full minute, had also registered a first-place finish at the Farnham RC 25 in June, but his victory Newbury came by a more emphatic margin of 2:24.

Watts in second place followed up with a time of 32:12 and saw him go one better than the third place he achieved at the London West DC earlier in July.

Benjamin Allen (Westerley Cycling Club) came in third on a time of 32:16, with Steve Mead (Didcot Phoenix CC) on 32:47 in fourth and James Godward (Four4th) in fifth on 33:03.

In the women’s race Claire Kitching (Newbury RC) was the fastest finisher with a time of 36:19 with Therese Coen (London Phoenix) just behind, whilst the fastest veteran was second-place Watts.
