World Tour professional Connor Swift (Team Arkea – Samsic) smashed the course record to win the Rossington Wheelers 25, while Fiona Sharp (Chapeau! Vive Le Velo) comfortably won the women’s event.

Swift, aged 25, from Moorends near Doncaster, returned to the domestic time trial scene after an early season riding Amstel Gold, the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Nice amongst other races.

On his first open time trial of the season scratch rider Swift decimated the impressive times posted before him winning in 48-24.

Favourable wind conditions helped riders on the 025/11 with riders completing two out and back legs to make the distance.

Riders battled a crosswind out from the start along the A18 towards the first turn at the Lincolnshire Golf Club.

However, on the longest leg past the start on the A18 and then onto the newly resurfaced A614 through the finish and down to the final turn at Blaxton riders were treated to a favourable tailwind.

Competitors then battled the resulting headwind for the last five miles back home to Hatfield Woodhouse.

Swift had a previously recorded personal best of 49-39 in open events recorded in the Spalding 25 in 2018 but also smashed this time with his winning one of 48-24.

Early starter George Peden (Team PB Performance) set a phenomenal early marker and was only the third person to ever go under the 50-minute marker on the course clocking 49-58.

The under-23 rider from Northern Ireland, but studying in Leeds, won the Cambridge University 25 (inc BUCS Championships) last month and despite going faster on this occasion had to settle for second while Oscar Nillson-Julien (Team Inspired) took third.

Ian Guilor (Mapperley CC) was fastest veteran rider in 53-19 ahead of Stuart Wells (Lindsey Roads Cycling Club) in second (55-15) while Julian Ramsbottom (Team Bottrill) took third (55-27).

Previous course record holder Adam Duggleby posted the quickest time of the day alongside his tandem partner Steve Bate with the Chapeau! Vive Le Velo pairing clocking an incredible 46-02.

Meanwhile, quickest junior was Timothy Lane (JRC Shutt Ridley RT) in 1-02-42.

In the women’s event Sharp took her first win of the season with the 42-year-old posting a winning time of 59-24.

On her first appearance of the season Hannah Peel (Team Sheffield) took second in 1-01-28 while Joanna Cebrat (Bury Clarion CC) completed the podium positions in 1-02-07.
