Under-23 rider Carl Jolly (University of Bristol CC) climbed to victory by 13 seconds in the Sodbury Cycle Sport HC, while Bexy Dew (Army Cycling) dominated the women’s event.
Jolly, aged 21 and from Bristol, clinched his first ever open victory on the Wotton Hill Climb in a time of five minutes and 30 seconds.
The UH14 climb sees riders start outside Wotton-under-Edge on the B4058 with a sharp left-hand bend at the bottom rising to 10 per cent before continuing at a more consistent gradient for the remains of the 1.4-mile climb.
Jolly led a string of five youngsters who dominated the top five positions.
Fellow under-23 Cam McLaren (Vector Cycling Race Team) finished second in 5-43 while fellow age group category rider Daniel Capel-Smith (University of Bath CC) completed the podium positions (5-45).
Fastest junior Tom Williams (Webbs 1902 CC) finished in fifth place in 5-47 ahead of quickest veteran Steve Thomas (Bristol Road Club) clocking 5-52.
“It was really good and a fun climb,” said Jolly.
“I went hard at the bottom as that’s the steep part and hoped for a tailwind towards the top which there was.
“I had ridden the climb once or twice before while just out riding so I knew it was important to go hard at the bottom.”
Dew who has a host of victories to her name already this hill climb season added another win to her collection clocking a time of 6-33.
She finished ahead of FTP (Fulfil The Potential) Racing duo of Corinne Clark in second (8-02) and quickest veteran female Sasha Smith in third (8-07).
