In-form Joscelin Lowden and Simon McNamara were fastest female and male riders at the East Sussex CA 10-mile time trial near East Hoathly on Saturday morning.
Lowden, the 31-year-old from London who rides for The Independent Pedaler, won the last round of the Sigma Sports Classic TT Series as well as the opening round of the national road series the East Cleveland Klondike Grand Prix.
And she showed her great form once again with an impressive time of 21-51 to secure sixth place overall in a field of more than 70 riders.
That gave her victory in the women’s category by 2-17 from Sally Turner, the trainSharp rider who had team-mate Lisa Davis 33 seconds back in third.
44-year-old Simon McNamara is from Henfield and rides for South Downs Bikes, and he clocked 20-15 to take the win by 29 seconds from brother Chris McNamara (Nuun Sigma Sport), who was also second on this course in the ESCA 10 back in September when James Rix was victorious.
There was a brace of trainSharp riders in third and fourth with Howard Shaw missing out on second by just one second with 20-45, while Alex Welburn covered the G10/87 course in exactly 21 minutes for fourth overall.
Fabien Large (NOPINZ) was the quickest junior rider with an impressive 22-23, while trainSharp were the team winners with Shaw and Welburn being joined by Will Reeder to total 1-03-49, 3-11 quicker than the Eastbourne Rovers CC trio.
There were several age group prizes on a ‘one rider one prize’ basis, and 33-year-old George Welfare (Eastbourne Rovers CC) won the Under-35 prize with 21-59.
Matthew Smith (Team ASL) was top of the 35-39 riders with 21-56, while Dan Pullen (N+1 Lindfield Coffee Works) was fastest 40-44 with 21-51.
Brett Davis (Lewes Wanderers CC) clocked 22-14 to win the 45-49 prize, while the 50-54 prize went to David Clark (Eastbourne Rovers CC) with 22-26.
Kingston Phoenix RC rider Marcus Edwards won the 55-59 prize with 24-19, while Dominic Lowden (Lewes Wanderers clocked 24-33 to win the 60-64 prize. And finally, the over-65 prize went to Vincent Busk (Lewes Wanderers CC) set a time of 26-29.
McNamara’s win was not his first this season: He was also victorious in Easter Monday’s Brighton Mitre CC hilly 25, while he had finished third on three occasions in open events in 2019 in the Crawley Wheelers sporting 41.6, the ESCA two-up 17.2 and the Sussex CA hilly 25 in March.
He is next due to be in action in the Sussex CA 10 and 25 next Saturday and Sunday.
The popular course takes riders from the start near East Hoathly down the A42 through Whitesmith and Golden Cross and on to Lower Dicker to the north of Hailsham, where there turn around and retrace to the finish.
