Joe Laverick

Josie Smith was fastest woman as Joe Laverick was in supreme form on his way to victory in the Team Swift 10 near Gilberdyke, East Yorkshire, on Saturday.

Road pro Laverick (Madison Genesis) averaged over 31mph on his way to a dominant victory on the Yorkshire roads on Saturday afternoon further expanding his palmares of victories.

The 18-year-old GB rider from Grimsby had won both previous meetings he had started over a ten-mile distance this year and was arguably the favourite heading into the event – he didn’t disappoint, flying around the course in 19-19.

Joseph Dobson (Manchester Bicycle Club) bounced back after failing to finish in last week’s treacherous round five of the Sigma Sports Classic Series to take a place on the podium for the ninth time this season – four of which were wins.

Dobson crossed the line in 20-31, four seconds ahead of a duo of joint third placings. Dobson also featured in the Chester RC on Sunday.

The aforementioned duo consisted of Bevan Jones (Team Sportslab) and Richard Dean (Rockingham CC) who both clocked 20-35 to finish on a very crowded podium. Dean also finished the day as fastest veteran.

Josie Smith (Barnsley Road Club) made the trip to East Yorkshire where she will head back with a first open victory of 2019 under her belt.

Smith, 33, clocked 24-38 to finish 21 seconds ahead of Hull Thursday RC rider Vanessa Barker who crossed the line in 24-59.

In third was Maria Mulleady (Team Swift) with a time of 25-07.
