York Cycleworks team-mates Ed Nicholson and Rebecca Bland were fastest male and female riders at the Ravensthorpe CC 10-mile time trial in West Yorkshire on Saturday.
Nicholson, 43, clocked 21-15 to win by just five seconds from Darren Yarwood (Vive le Velo), while another five seconds back in third was Billy Jarish (Rose Race Team).
It was close for fourth too, with Peter Watson (Harrogate Nova CC) just one second away from third, while Mark Wolstenholme (Team Swift) was fifth with 21-40 and Cycling Sheffield-Giant rider Kieran Savage sixth with 21-43.
Bland’s time of 27-39 gave the 25-year-old victory in the women’s category by 25 seconds from Sandra Burrows (Vive le Velo), while third fastest female was juvenile Harriet Breakey (Holmfirth CC) with an impressive 28-22.
The V910 course begins on minor roads just north of Brotherton near Fairburn Ings nature reserve. It crosses over the A1 and up and across to the junction with the A656 near Kippax before turning and retracing.
Nicholson is well used to riding the V910 course, having ridden open events on it six times since the 2017 season.
Last April he partnered Pete Nixon of Seacroft Wheelers to victory in a two-up event on the same course, while on the same day he rode again in the solo event and placed fifth with 21-36.
Bland’s victory is her first of the 2019 season, having placed fifth in the Harrogate Nova CC 15 a fortnight earlier. She is next due to be in action in the Otley CC 10 on April 13, as well as the Seacroft Wheelers 10 on April 20.
