Wingfield and Millmore battle conditions to win Cambridge CC 15
John Wingfield (Team Signum) clinched a narrow victory by 16 seconds in tough conditions at the Cambridge CC 15, while Jennifer Millmore (Islington CC) took the women’s victory.
The Cambridge CC saw 25 riders chose not to take to the start line including scratch rider Matthew Smith (Drag2Zero). However, some 70 riders did take to the F2/15 course which saw riders complete an out and back loop along the A428 near Cambourne.
Despite the conditions Wingfield stormed around the course clocking a winning time of 27 minutes and 53 seconds.
Wingfield had previously finished second in the East District CA 100 and won the Virtual CA 25 in a time of 46.38.
On this occasion he beat Ashley Cox into second with 28.09 while Felix Barker (ActiveEdge Race Team) rounded off the podium in 28.41.
In a competitive women’s category Millmore clocked a winning time of 32.47 to take victory by 29 seconds from veteran rider Fiona Sharp (Team Swift) in 33.16.
Meanwhile, fellow veteran Becky Taylor (Wisbech Wheelers) rounded off the podium places taking a close third in 33.25.
The pairing of Rachael Elliott (Newbury RC) and Ian Greenstreet (AeroCoach) added another victory to their growing list by almost five minutes.
Elliott and Greenstreet clocked a winning time of 28 minutes and 23 seconds, which would have been good enough for third overall.
They were chased home by VC Baracchi pairing John Swanbury and Allistair Banks in 34.14 while A5 Rangers CC duo Murray Kirton and David Stockley took third in 36.21.
