GS Metro team-mates Fiona Burnie and Adam Wild were victorious once again as Barnesbury CC staged a 10-mile time trial on a new course in Northumberland on Sunday.
Burnie, 34 and from Bishop Auckland, covered the course near Cramlington in 23-05, making her the fastest female on the day by just 11 seconds from Team Swift rival Gemma Frost, while Joanne Rea (Blaydon CC) was third.
And Sigma Sports Classic TT Series champion Adam Wild’s time of 19-09 gave him the overall win by 47 seconds from Tom Hutchinson (Team Kirkley Cycles), with Lewis Timmins (Team Swift) third, a minute behind Wild.
The maiden open event on the course was dry and sunny, but strong winds made it heavy going in places for the riders as they ploughed up and down the dual carriageway course.
Behind the podium spots, fourth place went to birthday boy Danny Grieves (GS Metro) who was returning to TT action after some time off the bike.
In other categories Daniel Dixon of Revolver Racing was fastest junior with 22:29, fastest team of three was GS Metro (Adam Wild, Danny Grieves and Ben Lane) who held off the Hawick CC trio of Liam Beaty, Tommy Murray and David Beattie.
Fastest over-40 veteran was Ben Lane of GS Metro, top over-50 was Harry Walker of Revolver Racing and the fastest over-60 veteran was Nev Martin of GS Metro. Fastest rider for the host club was John Routledge (21:46).
Wild’s win was the latest of several in a 2019 season which is shaping up well. He was victorious in the Barnesbury CC 25 last month which was also the Northumberland and Durham Championship, and also won the Houghton CC 25 in June. May saw him place first in the Tyneside Vagabonds CC 47-mile event, while he took the win in the Bishop Auckland CC mountain time trial over a 40.5-mile course in April.
And in the Sigma Sports Series he won round one, and placed second on three other occasions to secure the overall win.
Burnie is also making winning a hard habit to break, with several 2019 victories to her name.
She was also winner at the Northumberland and Durham CA 25-Mile Championships staged by Barnesbury CC last month, while other wins this season have included the Houghton CC 26 in June, the Tyneside Vagabonds 47 in May, and the Teesdale CRC sporting 21 in March.
