Former national champion Matthew Bottrill and American pro rider Leah Thomas were the fastest male and female respectively at the Sherwood CC 25-mile time trial that took place near Farndon in Nottinghamshire on Saturday afternoon.
Bottrill (Team Bottrill) clocked a time of 49-21 to set the fastest time by any rider on the day in conditions described by the race organiser as very windy and tough going.
The 42-year-old was last victorious at the Leicester Forest CC 50 at the end of June, and most notably finished second at the National Team Time Trial Championship in the same month.
Bottrill will be hoping to continue his good form next weekend as he is set to ride at the National 25-mile Championship which takes place near Etwall in Derbyshire.
Leon Wright (Race Hub) was the man to finish in second after clocking a time of 50-29 respectively.
Leah Thomas (Bigla Pro Cycling Team) finished with a time of 50-42 to finish third overall and top the women’s standings but also smash the women’s course record by 1-15.
This was Thomas’ first ever 25-mile time trial and she recently won the Women’s Tour of Scotland General Classification.
She most notably finished fifth at the UCI World Time Trial Championships which were hosted in Innsbruck, Austria.
Thomas was using the Sherwood CC 25 as part of her preparations for the forthcoming UCI World Time Trial Championships which are being hosted in Yorkshire in September.
The fastest team overall was Team Bottrill who finished with a combined time of 2-37-54 respectively.
