Luke Cornish.

Luke Cornish took first place in the Sportzmad 10-mile event in Abergavenny on Saturday, completing the course in 21.16.

The Cwmcarn Paragon RC rider finished fourth last time out, as part of a duo at the Port Talbot Wheelers 2-Up last weekend, and his good form continued here with a solid ride in freezing temperatures and snow.

In second place, it was Southampton University Road Club rider Anna Morris in 22.15, just under a minute slower than Cornish.

Morris completed the course in 21.37 last time she rode it, in September of last month, although she finished 20th on that occasion.

She will be hoping for another good season after finishing runner-up in the British Students 25-mile Championship and 12th in the National Championship over the same distance.

Just five seconds off the pace of Morris in third was veteran Simon Garrett of Worcester St Johns CC in 22.20.

The next two fastest women finished 18th and 19th overall with Cardiff Triathletes rider Laura Clements taking second place on the women’s podium with a time of 25.28.

Emma Angove of 73Degrees CC was third on the women’s podium with a time of 25.39, just 11 seconds down on Clements.
