Conrad Moss broke the S4/25 course record to claim victory at the Exeter Wheelers 25 on Sunday morning, with Crystal Spearman taking the women’s prize.

The event hosted by Exeter Wheelers along the A38 Devon Expressway also doubled up as the South West District Championship.

Moss (Mid Devon CC) was the standout performer on the day, stopping the clock in a new course record time of 48.03.

That gave the 42-year-old from Paignton a comfortable winning margin of one minute 18 seconds to claim a multitude of other titles.

Not only did Moss claim the top prize, he took three South West District titles, the individual award, the best veteran on standard (+18.23) and was also part of the winning Mid Devon CC trio along with team-mates Andrew Perkins and Ian Cullen.

Second place overall went to Alex Jones (Team Elite) in 49.21, who was a further minute quicker over the 25-mile course than Niall Todd (Tavistock Wheelers) who claimed a podium in third).

It was an equally commanding performance in the women’s competition, with Crystal Spearman taking both the top prize and the regional crown.

The Nopinz rider clocked 57.04 which also gave her a winning margin on the day of over a minute from her nearest challengers.

Spearman has been focused on the endurance races, with an excellent second place at the National 24-hour championships and sixth over the 12-hour distance, her last open victory over 25 miles coming with her success at the Cardiff Road CC 25 on July 1.

Mid Devon CC rider Zoe Betteridge claimed second place, her time of 58.14 was 39 seconds quicker than Ruth Burrows (SoutforkRacing.co.uk) who completed the top three.

Gary Fouracres claimed the competition top prize for the fastest veteran on standard, his 51.26 was 17 minute 13 seconds quicker than the target time.
