Dominic Schils (Schils - Doltcini RT) and Ann Shuttleworth (Cambridge CC) both finished 30 seconds clear of their respective opponents to take wins at the Colchester Rovers CC 10.

Meanwhile, host club riders Mark Ketterer and Kelly Phillips were quickest in the road bike categories.

Riders competed against a high wind on the sporting E7/10d Tendring-Beaumont-Great Oakley-Wix-Stones Green course in Essex which survived nearby roadworks and a closure of the A120.

It was the first time the course has been used for an open event so Schils’ winning time of 22 minutes and three seconds was a new course record.

On his second open outing of the season Schils picked up his first ever open time trial victory finishing 30 seconds ahead of last starter Alex Purcell (CC Sudbury) in 22-33.

A further minute behind was fellow CC Sudbury rider Ian Short who finished third overall and quickest veteran on scratch in 23-30.

“I haven't done many time trials the last years and it was great to get back to competing in the local time trialling scene,” said Schils.

Ann Shuttleworth.

“Colchester Rovers organised another great event on this brand new course, and despite the wind and exposed sections, I managed to pace it well and I’m happy with the end result and time.”

Shuttleworth, aged 57 and from Braintree, was the only female rider to break the 28-minute mark setting a course benchmark time of 27-56.

Colchester Rovers CC dominated the remaining women’s time trial bike podium positions with Jodi Thomas in second (28-26) and Elspeth Knott third (31-20).

“It was my first one of the season, it was very windy with crosswinds but I was very pleased with it,” said Shuttleworth.

“It was a lovely course, it was very twisty, some ups and downs in it, it was a sporting course which was nicely set out.

“I’m very happy with it, a nice boost following my work over the winter.”

Competing in his first open time trial veteran Mark Ketterer (Colchester Rovers CC) was the quickest road bike stopping the clock in 25-00 which was 59 seconds quicker than team-mate Shane Jarvis.

Placing third in the road bike category was Connor Price (Audax UK) who covered the new course in 26-30.

The women’s road bike category was closely fought with Kelly Phillips (Colchester Rovers CC) going quickest in 33-17 which was three seconds quicker than team-mate Jacqui Mortlock, while Caroline Wyke (CC Sudbury) was third (39-01).
