Marcel Schubert

Marcel Schubert and Sarah Harrison were fastest male and fastest female respectively at Darlington CC 25-mile time trial on Sunday morning.

Riding for the promoting club, Schubert finished in 52-28, with he and second-placed Mark Wolstenholme, (Swift Racing) who clocked 53-53, the only two riders to go under 55 minutes, while Keith Murray of Vector Racing was third in 56-36.

Schubert planned to ride the Velo Club Cumbria 10 on Saturday, but when this was cancelled due to roadworks he was turned his sole focus to this event and duly recorded a third win from six time trials this season.

Fastest female was claimed by Sarah Harrison (Sheffield Triathalon Club) in 1-05-11, with fellow Sheffield rider, Maria Mulheady-Kershaw (Trek Sheffield) coming second in 1-06-32, while third place went to Ferryhill Wheelers’ Caroline Ratcliffe in 1-07-58.

Iain Hodgeson was fastest on a road bike in 1-04-26, and of the young riders on show, Will Trevor was fastest junior in 1-07-42 and fastest juvenile went to Sophie Heighton in 1-10-59.

With damp conditions and cool temperatures, allied to a light 8mph Southerly breeze, the time trial - the third and final of the DCC Early 25 Series - proved to be more challenging than most expected on the North Yorkshire T2541/R course.

Starting in Leeming Bar, the riders head southwards past RAF Leeming, Exelby, Burneston and Carthorpe before turning and retracing the route back to the finish.
