Lewis Wake and Anna Weaver were fastest male and female respectively as Team Kirkley Cycles won the main two categories at the Vector Racing 25-mile time trial in Northumberland.

Wake clocked 51-39 to win overall by 43 seconds from the promoting club’s Lewis Timmings, while veteran Robbie Mitchell (Auchencrow Thistle CC) was third overall in 52-38.

And in the women’s category 38-year-old Weaver clocked 1-00-24 to win by 1-07 from Blaydon CC’s Sarah Wilkinson, with third fastest being Vicky Gibbs (Reifen Racing) who was another 1-38 further back.

The two-lap event runs parallel to the north east coast line, so cross-winds made for a slower day and Wake was considerably slower than his course record performance of 48-25.

“I hoped to get somewhere near my time from last year on this course,” said Wake. “But the wind wasn’t too kind today and this really affected the whole field.

“However, I’m pleased it was enough to take the top spot today in another top North East event with a large field of strong riders.”

Weaver said afterwards: “I’m happy to take another win today. It was a slow day but I was more than happy with my power.”

Robbie Mitchell of Auchencrow Thistle CC was delighted with his time (52:38) to take third spot overall and fastest veteran on actual time (+13:33 up on his standard time) adding that he could never achieve that sort of time up on his home roads in Scotland.

Fastest veterans on standard were Philip Kennell (GS Metro) and Sarah Wilkinson (Blaydon CC) with +15-40 and +13-22 respectively.

Top juvenile was Harris Hall (Velo Culture) with 53-50 for seventh overall, and best on a road bike was Lee Cuthbertson (Muckle CC) with 56-29.

Best female juvenile was Ferryhill Wheelers’ Sophie Heighton in 1-09-00, with top female on a road bike being Adele McAleer (Velo Culture) in 1-08-27.
