Lewis Wake (Team Kirkley Cycles) was the standout performer, grabbing top spot in the North Tyneside Riders CC 10-mile event, while Vicky Gibbs (Reifen Racing) was quickest in the women’s category.
Wake rode a time of 20:13 to secure top spot by over 30 seconds from colleague at Team Kirkley Cycles Adam Smith who completed the course in 20:47. Taking third position was Phil Hall (VeloCulture), the veteran finished in 20:50.
Prolific rider Wake has won an array of events over the last few years and this year has also started off well for the 26-year-old, winning two of three 2022 events prior to this and making that three of four after this event.
In the women’s event it was 43-year-old Vicky Gibbs that was quickest clocking a time of 24:13.
Taking the next available podium spot was Sarah Wilkinson (Blaydon CC) who finished just eight seconds later in 24:22. Taking third was Lois Jarvis, of the promoting club (North Tyneside Riders CC) with 25:56.
It was the first overall win for Gibbs, who had been fastest veteran out multiple times but the first time she had won overall this season.
“I didn’t actually realise I had won until someone pointed it out,” she said. “Today is bit more special to get the overall win, especially when the 10-mile district trophy is up for grabs.”
