Jordan Black (West Suffolk Wheelers) took victory by over a minute in the Newmarket Cycling & Triathlon Club event shortened to 7.5 miles, while host club rider Kerry Brennand won the women’s event on her road bike.

Black, aged 24, took his first ever open time trial victory in a time of 17 minutes and 43 seconds.

Due to emergency roadworks on the course the original 10-mile course had to be changed resulting in a 7.5-mile event.

From the start riders descended down to Cheveley before climbing into Cheveley Park and then taking on the rolling road to Kirtling.

Reaching Silverley riders then faced a cruel climb to the finish with a gradient of over 7% in sections.

On his last outing Black finished second in the CC Breckland 10 but went one better on this occasion over the shorter course.

George Wallace (Magdalene Boat Club CC) led a close fight for the remaining podium positions taking second place in 18-44.

Just eight seconds further behind was Alex Purcell (CC Sudbury) who covered the course in 18-52.

Quickest veteran on scratch was Andy Kennedy (Ipswich BC) whose time of 19-15 was good enough for fourth overall.

In the women’s event Brennand took on the lumpy course on her road bike and was rewarded with the overall victory in a time of 22-14.

The win was Brennand’s first in an open time trial after taking on her first events last season.

Amy Sole (Full Moo Cycling) pushed Brennand all the way but had to settle for second 33 seconds down in 22-47.

Fellow road bike rider Caroline Wyke (CC Sudbury) finished third woman overall completing the course in 30-46.

Oliver Clark (West Suffolk Wheelers) won the men’s road bike category with his time of 19-31 good enough for fifth overall.

Ben Dean (Loose Cannon's Conditioning) took second in 20-20 after a close battle with Steve Foster (Newmarket Cycling & Triathlon Club) who was a further six seconds back.
