Congleton CC enjoyed double success with Alastair Ribbands and Lynsey Astles finishing fastest male and fastest female respectively at the Withington Wheelers 25-mile time trial on Saturday afternoon.
In a competitive field, Ribbands, 38 and from Timperley, recorded a time of 54-16 to finish ahead of Otley CC’s Harry Jordan who was just four seconds behind in 54-20, while Mathew Roberts from Team Bottrill was third in 54-28.
In the women’s event, Astles’ time of 1-06-39 saw her finish ahead of Salford Cycling Club’s Rihanna Parkinson, who finished in 1-17-40, with Carolyn Hume (Cheshire Maverick Cycle Club) the third fastest in 1-19-52.
Ribbands’ efforts, alongside James Brayford and Kelvin Millward, helped Congleton secure the club prize, with 17-year-old Jordan claiming fastest junior and Westmead Team 88’s Nicholas Smith named fastest juvenile in 1-16-12.
Hume was the fastest female novice, while Carl Hitchenson (Weaver Valley CC) took the men’s novice prize in 1-09-54, and fastest veteran on standard was Lindsey Roads Cycling Club’s Keith Ainsworth with +16-35.
Ribbands has enjoyed a strong start to the season so far, finishing second in the opening Cheshire Points Series event at Manchester & District TTA, before following that up with first in the next two time trials, and will look to continue that form at Macclesfield Wheelers on April 9.
This 25-mile time trial, forming the fourth of 20 events in the Cheshire Points Series, was run on the J2/9 course, starting at Bomish Lane in Jodrell Bank, before proceeding to Chelford, then onto Ollerton and heading south towards Cranage, onwards to Twemlow and then north back to Jodrell Bank.
