Marcel Schubert earned an emphatic win at the Yorkshire Road Club 25-mile time trial on Saturday afternoon, with Josie Smith finishing as fastest woman in the event near Boroughbridge.
An impressive time of 52-20 helped Schubert, of Darlington CC, beat runner-up Benjamin Williams (Cliff Pratt Racing) who finished more than two minutes down in 54-31, while Trek Sheffield’s Richard Dean took the final podium place in 55-19.
In the women’s event Barnsley-based Smith (Trek Sheffield) was just six seconds short of her own course record in clocking 1-00-22, comfortably ahead of second-placed Jan Scotchford (North Lancashire RC) who completed the route in 1-08-09.
Elsewhere Clayton Velo rider Peter Greenwood was fastest veteran on standard in +13-58, with David Nichol (Ferryhill Wheelers) recording +11-30 for second.
The non-aero road bike event saw Steven Guymer (Squadra RT) complete his ride in 1-00-20, ahead of Hub Velo’s Sam Harding in 01-02-22 and Andrew Lambe (Ilkley CC) who came home in 1-04-41.
The 31 starters had to battle strong winds on the course but managed to avoid any serious rain as several entrants recorded personal bests.
Starting south of Boroughbridge, riders turn left onto the A168 then head south and encircle the island to retrace the course north along the A168, past the start and northbound, turning just before Boroughbridge, turning back southwards and finish just south of Arkendale Road.
