George Peden

George Peden (Team PB Performance) broke the 19-minute barrier despite windy conditions to win the Drighlington BC 10, while Josie Smith (Trek Sheffield) battled to victory in the women’s event.

Scratch rider Peden, from Leeds, was in formidable form recording his third open time trial victory in a winning time of 18 minutes and 49 seconds – a minute and 32 seconds clear of his nearest challenger.

The V210 saw riders start at Dishforth before heading out and back along the A168 to Thorpefield before making the return journey.

Riders were hindered by a block headwind on the outward journey before making up for lost time on the return journey.

22-year-old Peden has also won the VTTA Yorkshire 25 and Darlington CC 25 this season and was once again successful on this occasion.

Bevan Jones (53eleven) won the mid-week City Road Club & Vive Le Velo 10 on Wednesday but was beaten into second this time out finishing second in 20-21.

Josie Smith

Quickest veteran on scratch Matthew Asquith (Otley CC) completed the podium positions a further 28 seconds back (20-49).

The women’s event was a closely fought contest with Smith posting a time of 22-28 which was just 14 seconds faster than Lucy Ellmore (Pro-Noctis - Redchilli Bikes - Heidi Kjeldsen).

Smith, aged 36, from Barnsley, also won the East Bradford CC 15 on her last outing and recorded a second win of the season on this occasion.

Ellmore had to settle for second in 22-42 while Louise Scupham (Jadan Vive Le Velo) completed the podium positions in third (23-21).

Karen Taylor (Team Sportslab) was the quickest veteran on scratch finishing fourth overall in 25-18.
