Joe Wilson (Dolan Ellesse) charged to victory by over a minute in the East Bradford CC 15, while Josie Smith (Trek Sheffield) was a clear winner in the women’s event.

Despite the windy conditions, Wilson, aged 21, posted a winning time of 31 minutes and 26 seconds which was one minutes and 26 seconds clear of his nearest rival.

The V221 saw riders compete on the A168 between Grafton and Cowthorpe in Yorkshire.

Some 39 riders battled the windy conditions (tailwind out, headwind back) on an unseasonably chilly morning.

The sun shone intermittently and it stayed dry for the event, but the windy conditions made it hard to record a fast time.

On his only other outing this season Wilson finished second in the Hartlepool CC 10, but he was not to be denied on this occasion.

Veteran Mark Wolstenholme (Swift Racing) was scratch rider having won the Ravensthorpe CC 8 earlier this month but had to settle for second overall this time out in 32-49.

Fellow veteran Richard Dean (Trek Sheffield) showed his consistent form once again finishing third in 33-26.

Quickest junior was Will Trevor (Jem Hadar Racing) who completed the course in a time of 41-19.

Spindata had predicted a win for Wilson but the under-23 rider went faster than the 31-54 predicted despite the windy conditions.

In the women’s event Smith was in dominant form completing the course in a winning time of 37 minutes and eight seconds.

Barnsley-based Smith also won the Team Sheffield 10 last month and once again tasted victory with a winning margin of four minutes and 32 seconds.

Veteran rider Liz Ball (Valley Striders CC) led the battle for the remaining podium positions finishing second in 41-40 while fellow veteran Susan Sanders (Drighlington BC) took third (42-36).

Spindata had predicted a victory for Smith but her time in the blustery conditions was slower than the 36-21 predicted.
