Richard Oakes

Richard Oakes led a one-two for Team Ohten Aveas at the ECCA (Championships) 10, while Sally Turner (trainSharp) was quickest in the women’s event.

Oakes, from Rutland, was crowned VTTA National 10 Champion earlier this season and took his fifth win of the season this time out

The 53-year-old recorded a winning time of 18 minutes and 52 seconds which was 17 seconds clear of team-mate Ian Hope.

Starting near Six Mile Bottom riders headed out and back along the A11 towards Fourwentways and then making the return journey.

Scratch rider Oakes finished fifth in the National Circuit Championships last weekend but returned to the top podium position this time out.

Fellow veteran and Team Ohten Aveas rider Hope won the Hart Performance Coaching Spring Classic 10 earlier this season but had to settle for second this time out in 19-09.

A further six seconds back was Paul Pardoe (Peterborough CC) who has four wins to his name this season but was third this time out in 19-15.

The event also incorporated the Eastern Counties Cycling Association Championships.

Pardoe took the honours 16 seconds ahead of Matt O'Brien (Loose Cannon's Conditioning) in second (19-31) while Nic Pillinger (St Neots CC) was the third ECCA rider in 19-38.

Spindata had predicted a one-two for Team Ohten Aveas with Oakes and Hope both slightly slower than predicted.

In the women’s event Turner was fastest recording a winning time of 21 minutes and 44 seconds.

The veteran rider also won the Hemel Hempstead 10 last weekend in 20-45 and despite going much slower on this occasion continued her winning form.

Anastasia Bowler (AS Test Team) pushed Turner all the way for victory but eventually finished eight seconds back finishing runner-up in 21-52.

The race for third fastest and for ECCA honours could not have been closer with Louise Robinson (Essex Roads) and Hannah O'Brien (Loose Cannon's Conditioning) both stopping the clock in exactly 21-55.

Karen Aylen (Maldon & District CC) was third in the ECCA championships completing the course in 22-48.
