Lindsay Clarke

Lindsay Clarke led a women’s 123 for Fenland Clarion in the Northampton and District CA 10-mile time trial in Cambridgeshire on Saturday, while George Fox (George Fox Cycling Solutions) was quickest male rider.

60-year-old Clarke clocked 24-45 to win the female prize by 1-20 from team-mate Tonya Smith, while Annette Wylde was another 2-51 behind in third spot to ensure a clean sweep of the women’s podium.

In the men’s category Fox took the overall win with a time of 20-02, which was 30 seconds faster than runner-up Paul Pardoe who led Peterborough CC to the team prize alongside Jamie Murray who was third overall with 21-22, while Malcolm Smith completed the winning team with 21-52 for fourth overall.

It was a blustery afternoon on the N1/10 course near Sawtry, with a downpour towards the back of the field causing problems which may well have stopped Fox going under the 20-minute mark.

The N1/10 course begins to the south of Sawtry and heads northwards on the B1043 tracking the A1 to the north of Stilton, where riders turn back for the finish.

George Fox

28-year-old Fox was fastest in this same event 12 months earlier, where he clocked 19-39 to once again leave Paul Pardoe in second spot.

This was win number three for Fox in open time trials in 2022, having won the Kettering CC 20 in March and the Cambridge CC 15 in April. But his form has continued to hold, and he was unlucky to only finish fourth at the National Circuit Championships last month.

Lindsay Clarke was also a winner at this same event 12 months ago, with a time of 25-01. In her only other open time trial performance of this season so far she placed sixth in the Eastern Counties CA 10-mile Championship last month with a time of 23-12.

Of the juniors victory went to Harry Tozer (Fenland Clarion) with 25-52, with team-mates Theo Wan and Ethan Grundy taking second and third.
