David Fellows (Solihull CC) won the Banbury Star CC 23.5 for the third time in blustery conditions, while Naomi de Pennington (Banbury Star Cyclists' Club) charged to victory in the women’s event by two minutes.

Fellows, aged 29 and from Birmingham, took his second win in as many weeks, this time completing the course in 51 minutes and 32 seconds - some 37 seconds faster than his nearest challenger.

The Banbury Star Cyclists’ Club Hardriders' Time Trial took place on the K4/23 starting in Wroxton, north-west of Banbury.

Heading out and back along the A422 the 23-mile course included a slippery descent of 16% Sunrising Hill on the outward leg and an equally tricky ascent on the return.

The climb made the event challenging in blustery conditions even though the rain had stopped by the time the race started.

Fellows won seven events last season including the Banbury Star CC 23.5, and opened his account at the Matlock CC 35 last weekend.

Host club rider Josh Newbould (Banbury Star Cyclists' Club) led the challenge behind finishing second in 52-09 while Gerard Henry (University of Warwick CC) finished third (54-25).

Quickest veteran on scratch was Simon Smith (TY Cycles) who finished fifth overall in 54-53.

Naomi de Pennington (Banbury Star Cyclists' Club) also won the Banbury Star CC 23.5 on the same course last year and returned to retain her title.

Veteran rider De Pennington won on her first open outing of 2022 clocking a winning time of one hour and 47 seconds.

Under-23 rider Lydia Watts (AWOL O’Shea Worx) led the challenge behind taking second in 1-02-47.

Finishing third was Celia Brown (Beacon Roads CC) who completed the course in 1-03-20.

Quickest juvenile rider was Poppy Kisley (Banbury Star Cyclists' Club) who finished in 1-12-12.
