Gruffudd Lewis (Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling) gets his first open time trial win of the season - and first since 2018 – at the Bynea CC 10 near Llandovery on Saturday.

Lewis’ first ten-mile event of the season saw him finish in 20:35, fighting off competition from veteran Andrew Butcher (Cwmcarn Paragon Road Club) who finished just under a minute behind with a finishing time of 21:34.

Rhys Flint (Cardiff Ajax CC) completed the podium, clocking in at 21:44, making that back-to-back podium for the senior rider that has participated in three events this year.

Joshua Tarling (Flanders Color Galloo Team), the junior that was supposed to start on scratch, could not make the event as he was called away to a GB training camp over the weekend.

Another strong rider unable to compete was Christopher Gibbard, who was recovering from a crash and didn’t ride either of the Bynea events as planned. He hopes to be ready for the Bynea 50 on June 6.

No women participated in the time trial bike event and only 25 men started, 19 of those being veterans. Seven veterans placed in the top ten, with the best of the bunch being Butcher, who claimed his joint highest finish this season and completed back-to-back podium finishes for the first time, according to his CTT record.

Dan Kingston (Cwmcarn Paragon Road Club) came out for his first open event of the season and finished in seventh position with a time of 23:26.

Though Butcher was the fastest veteran overall, the best vet on standard was John Regan (Pembrokeshire Velo) with a time of 23:55 (+4:54).

The event used the R10/4 course which starts just south of Llandovery and heads south on the A4069 to Llangadog where they turn and head back up to the finish.

Gruffudd Lewis is next due to be in time trial action on June 9 at the Realteam.co.uk 10-mile event.
