Elliott and Greenstreet

Record-breaking tandem pairing Rachael Elliott and Ian Greenstreet of Newbury Velo were fastest overall at the North Hampshire Road Club 10-mile time trial in Hampshire on Saturday

They clocked 19-46, which was just two seconds better than quickest solo rider Ronnie Stone (Regents Park Rouleurs) in 19-48, who took the prize for fastest solo rider by 43 seconds from Nick Richards (GS Mossa).

Meanwhile, Anna Dwyer (Drag2Zero) clocked 23-19 to win the women’s prize and was exactly one minute quicker than Rosie Simmons (SURC), while third quickest female was the VC Godalming and Haslemere rider Ali Walters with 24-38.

And third in the men’s event was a tie between James Boyman (Hoops Velo) and Jamie Olsson (Giro Race Team) who both stopped the timekeepers watches in 20-33.

Conditions were reasonable for the Saturday afternoon event, with only a few showers and lighter winds than the area had seen over the preceding few days.

Ronnie Stone was also the best veteran on standard with a plus of 6.53, while Matt Hill (VC Godalming and Haslemere) was just five seconds back, and Peter Younghusband (Petersfield Triathlon Club) was third vet on standard with +6.24.

The event used the popular H10/8 Bentley bypass course in Hampshire. Riders begin on the A31 just east of Bentley, and head west on Alton Road down to Holybourne before turning back for home and finishing just beyond the start point to complete the ten miles.

Ronnie Stone has already tasted victory this season, with two wins from his three events so far. His first open outing was in the VTTA East Anglia 10 on April 10 which he won in 19-45, and this was followed up by another victory in the VTTA National 15-Mile Championship the following day.

He placed second in the Reading CC 50 last weekend, before going on to win this North Hampshire Road Club event.

He is next due to be in action in the VTTA East Anglian 10 on June 2, before taking part in the National Circuit Championships on June 6.

This was Dwyer’s first outing of the season, and she will be aiming to continue her good start when she takes part in the Alton CC 10 on June 19.
