Sebastian Dickson (AeroLab Ward Wheelz) snatched victory by just 27 seconds in the Reading Cycling Club 50, while Lizi Duncombe (Socks4Watts Race Team) was a clear victor in the women’s event.
After missing racing last season Dickson returned with a bang winning the Oxonian 36 last month.
On this occasion he finished in the winner’s position once again clocking a time of one hour, 43 minutes and 41 seconds over the 50-mile distance.
Riders got to test themselves on a new course in the Reading Cycling Club 50 comprising of three laps of the out and back A4 between Thatcham and Theale.
The forecast rain held off for most of the event with a couple of showers and a slight breeze picking up during the event.
However, low air pressure and a strong field pushing each other led to some fast times being recorded.
Dickson set a course record benchmark for future events on the course and was just 27 seconds faster than veteran Ronnie Stone (Regents Park Rouleurs).
Richard Pywell (Team Bottrill) had won the Newbury RC 25 on his last outing, but had to settle for third in 50-06.
Second veteran on scratch was Leon Marshall (Royal Navy & Royal Marines CA) in 1-47-07 while Edward Hales (London Dynamos) was third (1-47-50).
After finishing fifth in the National 50 Championships last season Duncombe continued her form this season winning the women’s event setting a course benchmark of 1-56-43.
The 31-year-old, from London, added the victory to a growing list including last weekend’s Newbury RC 25.
