Penzance Wheelers’ Martina Geraghty and Lee Frost (Nopinz Motip RT) were fastest at the Revo Racing 25-mile time trial in Devon on Sunday morning.
Geraghty, 51, covered the S130/25 course in an impressive 1-08-56 to take the win by around a minute and a half from Taw Velo rival Rebecca Cornwall, whose time of 1-10-22 was equally impressive given that it was on a road bike.
Similarly, the second-placed male rider was also on a road bike with no aero kit. 38-year-old Frost’s time of 55-23 gave him the win by 15 seconds from team-mate at Nopinz Tom Nancarrow who was quickest on a road bike.
Third spot in each category went to Simon Marshall (Exeter Wheelers) for the men and Charly Helyar (VTTA West) for the women.
The veterans prizes were shared out and also saw some impressive times.
Somerset Road Club’s Tim Southcombe clocked 1-01-42 to take the 40-49 prize, but faster was Lee Sanderson (Mid-Devon CC) who clocked 59-06 to take the 50-59 prize. Fastest in the over-60s was Robin Delve, another Mid-Devon CC rider, with 1-07-39.
North Devon Wheelers were celebrating after their junior rider George Eames proved quickest in that category with a tome of 1-03-20, while top Espoir was from the same club, Gregory Moss covering the course in 1-04-27.
The event doubled up as the South West District 25-Mile Championships, and as well as the above named riders the team prize went to North Devon Wheelers with Eames and Moss being joined in the winning trio by Robert Wakefield.
The course begins near Uffculme and heads south west through Willand down to the northern tip of Cullompton going over the M5 before heading north up to Wellington where riders retrace to the finish.
