Jack Roe (London Dynamo) posted the fastest time, while Sarah Matthews (a3crg) was fastest female in the Addiscombe CC 25-mile time trial in West Sussex on Sunday morning.
Roe, the 26-year-old from Putney in London, clocked 56-54 to take the win and EV Mills Trophy by 39 seconds from the promoting club’s Robert Drake, while third went to Crawley Wheelers’ Mark Smith who was another 26 seconds down.
Fastest woman was Sarah Matthews, the evergreen a3crg rider from West Sussex. She clocked 1-10-25 which gave her the win ahead of Catherine Alabaster (VO2 Maximum RT) by around 19 minutes.
Early starters had the best of the conditions, with bad weather causing problems for later starters. There were a large number of non-finishers due to punctures, crashes or navigation errors, with one of the pre-race favourites Stefan Gloyn (Army Racing) being one of those crashing out.
Third overall, Mark Smith was best veteran on standard. The Crawley Wheelers rider had a plus on his age standard of 9-27 which was nine seconds better than Team TMC’s Nik Allen, while Marek Siwicki (Addiscombe CC) was third with +6-00.
As well as being fastest female, Sarah Matthews was fourth fastest veteran on standard, the 61-year-old having a plus of 5-55.
Elsewhere among the overall fastest riders, Allen’s time of 58-32 made him fourth fastest overall while almost three minutes further back in fifth was Siwicki.
The event took place on the G25/49 course near Loxwood, using roughly three laps of an anti-clockwise circuit. It begins just south of Ifold and heads down through Kirdford before curving back up towards Loxwood, through Ifold and Plaistow where they turn south again to begin two more laps. The finish is to the south east of Ifold on Skiff Lane, before the junction with Vicarage Lane.
Seventh in last week’s Westerley CC 10, Roe will be looking to add to today’s victory when he tackles the Kingston Wheelers 10 next Saturday at North Holmwood in Surrey.
Riding her fourth open time trial this season, this performance from Matthews comes after she placed eighth in the VTTA National 15-Mile Championship in April as well as tenth in the a3crg Glorious Goodwood Circuit TT which attracted a star-studded field of senior and veteran riders.
She’s next hoping to be in action in the Newbury Velo 15 on Bank Holiday Monday, May 31, as well as the VTTA National 50-Mile Championships on June 13.
