Jonny Allen (Islington CC) was victorious in the Eastern Counties CA 25-mile time trial, while Karen Aylen (Maldon & Dist CC) was the winner of the women’s event near Chelmsford in Essex on Sunday.
36-year-old Allen covered the course in 53:36 which was just three seconds faster than runner-up Will Lowden (CC Sudbury), with third going to Samuel Thienel (Shaftesbury CC) who clocked a time of 54:47.
Allen has been in fine form of late, finishing on the podium in all of the open events that he has participated in since mid June. On that run he had won his last two events, extending that to three with the ECCA victory today. His next confirmed event is the Cambridge CC 25 next weekend where hopefully he can make his consecutive win streak four.
In the women’s event it was Karen Aylen that put herself into position to win, she clocked a time of 1:03:27 to come out on top.
Julia Freeman (Easterley RC) was the second placed finisher, riding a time of 1:04:41. The final podium spot was awarded to Emma Flin (Shaftesbury CC) who clocked in at 1:12:51.
Aylen was coming off the back of a win last weekend where she was triumphant in a 10.2-mile time trial event, while prior to that she had only missed the podium once in three rides.
This win marked consecutive wins and she will surely be looking to make that three in a row next time out. Her next event is scheduled to be the ECCA 10 next week on the E2/10 course where she failed to podium last time.
