David Parkin (Chorley Cycling Club) took his first open time trial victory in the SCCA & WCTTCA 100, while Emily Martin (Weaver Valley CC) added another win to her collection in the women’s event.
Parkin, from Swinton, in Manchester, was taking part in his first ever open 100 having previously only ridden 10 and 25-mile events.
The 34-year-old took victory at his first attempt covering the Shropshire course in a time of three hours, 42 minutes and 38 seconds.
The D100/6A course saw riders complete just over three laps of an out and back course of 31.1 miles between Market Drayton and Shawbirch, near Wellington.
Riders started on the A53 before turning onto the A442 down to Shawbirch and then making the return leg.
Parkin came into the event without an open victory with his previous best a third placed finish in the Manchester & District Ladies CA 10 last month.
Experienced veteran Victor Chetta (Pirate Juice CC) pushed Parkin all the way but eventually finished 19 seconds back in 3-42-57.
In a close battle for victory Gavin McCloskey-Lambert (Manchester Wheelers) was also within a minute of victory but had to settle for third on this occasion in 3-43-35.
Emily Martin (Weaver Valley CC) won the B.D.C.A 50 on her last outing and was a clear winner in the women’s event with a time of 4-13-09.
Veteran Maria Powell (Bristol South Cycling Club) finished second in 4-20-41 while fellow veteran Janel Fairclough (Liverpool Phoenix CC Aintree) completed the podium positions in 4-52-53.
