Espoir George Elliott (Liverpool Century RC) battled against rainy conditions to claim victory in the Chester Road Club 25 in Shropshire, while Frances Owen (Fibrax Wrexham RC) won the women’s event.

Pre-race favourite Elliott, 19, clocked in at 51:47 to continue his winning form. The rider from Liverpool is somewhat of a 25-mile specialist, having won all of the previous 25-mile rides he has participated in since the beginning of 2019, all in sub one hour.

Mitch Russell (Energy Cycling Club) and Victor Chetta (Pirate Juice CC) were the two other riders that made up the podium, finishing in 52:23 and 53:05 respectively, with Chetta being best veteran.

Mathew Roberts (Team Bottrill) finished in fourth overall, 53:08 was the time for the senior rider. Just missing a podium spot after also finishing fourth in his last 25-mile ride. Only three seconds out this time.

Meanwhile in the women’s event Owen recorded her first 25-mile victory since the beginning of May, but third of the season, clocking a time of 56:35 this time out.

Alison Dockney (Market Drayton Cycling Club) finished second, a further five minutes and 57 seconds behind in 1:02:32, while Lorna Harper (Mersey Tri) finished in 1:04:36 to round off the podium.

Finishing just outside of the podium for the women’s event was senior rider Jasmine Baker (Mersey Tri) who did the 25-mile ride in 1:08:37.

Fastest female veteran was Elaine Jewkes (Port Sunlight Wheelers) clocking in at 1:15:49.

The course begins in Tern Hill and goes along the A442 before turning near Telford and Wrekin at the A5223 roundabout and heading back.
