Neal Parkin

Veteran Neal Parkin (Team Bottrill) took victory by 14 seconds in the Rutland CC 10, while Madeline Gammons (Jadan CycleSpace- Vive Le Velo) took a clear women’s win.

Parkin, aged 42, took his fourth victory of the season in a winning time of 20 minutes and 34 seconds.

After finishing second last time out on the O10/1 in the Tickhill Velo Club 10 in 20-39 Parkin went five seconds faster on this occasion to take victory.

The O10/1 saw riders start near Hatfield Woodhouse near Doncaster before completing a traditional out and back course along the A614 to Blaxton before making the return journey.

Riders were treated to a warm temperature of 21 degrees, bright blue skies and very little wind for the event.

With over half of the course having freshly laid tarmac fast times were recorded and Parkin came within a minute of the course record.

Parkin has also won the Rotherham Wheelers 10, Bolsover and District 2-up and Team Sheffield 10 already this season and added this victory to his collection.

The event was a battle between the veteran riders taking up the top eight places in the results.

Ian Guilor (Mapperley CC) is searching for his first victory of the season and had to settle for second on this occasion finishing 14 seconds down in 20-48 but was quickest veteran over-50.

Mark Wolstenholme (Swift Racing) won the Otley CC 25 earlier this month but finished third this time out in 20-59.

Keith Ainsworth (Sheffrec CC) was fastest veteran over-60 in 21-12 and Michael Allen (Team Jewson-MI Racing) was quickest veteran over-70 clocking 24-09.

Quickest team were Hull Thursday with Mark Walker (21-34), Mark Symons (24-14) and Mike Tyas (24-21) all combining.

In the women’s event under-23 rider Gammons clocked a winning time of 23 minutes and 17 seconds.

Gammons, aged 21, from Bourne in Lincolnshire, won the Lee Valley CC 10 earlier this month in 21-59 and despite going slower on this occasion she added another victory to her tally.

Quickest veteran Jo Corbett (Sherwood CC) led the charge behind taking second in 26-24 while Michelle Morley (Swift Racing) finished third (27-13).

Lydia Turan (Holmfirth CC) was fastest juvenile girl covering the course in 28-30.
