Tom Hutchinson (Team Bottrill) took his second victory in as many weeks at the Team Kirkley Cycles 10, while junior team-mate Ella Jamieson was fastest female with a cracking performance.

Hutchinson, aged 25, from Newcastle Upon Tyne, won the North Tyneside 10 last weekend and recorded another win by almost a minute.

The M105 saw riders start outside Ponteland before heading north on minor roads before turning left at Ogle and cutting across to the A696 for the return leg back south to the finish.

Hutchinson was clear victor with his time of 20 minutes and 15 seconds slower than his 19-25 in the North Tyneside Riders 10 last weekend.

The fight for the remaining podium places saw three riders separated by three seconds.

Hutchinson will have to watch for juvenile Team Bottrill team-mate Alex Beldon with the 15-year-old taking second place 21-13.

In a clear sweep of the podium places for Team Bottrill veteran Simon Beldon was beaten by his young team-mate by a single second but took third in 21-14 while Lewis Wake (Team Kirkley Cycles) finished a close fourth a further second back.

“This was another well organised event on a technical course and in fact a sentimental race for me,” said Hutchinson. “I owe a lot to my good friend Tim Irwin (Team Kirkley Cycles), as he introduced me into the world of Time Trialing after I stopped rowing.

“Back in 2017 Tim told me about local club TT nights and encouraged me to have a go on this exact course, meaning the M105 was in fact my first ever TT. It was great to also see Tim back racing today.

“Setting a new course record today was therefore very fitting and has put things into perspective how far I’ve come over the years and it’s amazing to have such a supportive and friendly cycling scene in the north east.”

Philip Kennell (GS Metro) was second veteran on scratch in 22-16 while Mark Strang (Velo Culture) was third (22-25).

Meanwhile. Daniel Holmes (Dertwentside CC) was quickest junior in 23-22.

The women’s event was another close battle with just six seconds separating the top two riders.

Jamieson, aged 16, has already shown her form this season taking third in the Vive Le Velo 10 clocking 23-05.

On this occasion a slower time on the quieter course of 24-27 was enough to give Jamieson victory and a provisional course record ahead of Joanne Rea (Blaydon CC) finishing just six seconds back.

Meanwhile, in third overall place was another veteran Vicky Gibbs (Reifen Racing) in 25:56 who was 11 seconds faster than Sarah Wilkinson (Blaydon CC).
