Naomi De Pennington (Banbury Star Cyclists' Club) and David Fellows (Solihull CC) set new course records on their way to winning the Banbury Star Hardriders 23.5.

Fellows, from Sheldon near Birmingham, took his second victory of the season in a new benchmark time for the course of 50 minutes and nine seconds despite blustery conditions.

The 28-year-old also won the Common Lane Occasionals 12 on his last time out and was once victorious.

The K4/23 saw riders start at Wroxton before traveling along the A422 down Sun Rising Hill through Ettington to the turn.

Mixed weather conditions were 13 degrees with a blustery wind across the course. That meant the return leg was as expected in a hardriders event, with the steep 1.4 kilometre climb up Sun Rising Hill with a maximum gradient of 18.8% towards the top.

Fellows finished 30 seconds clear of host club rider Luke Norris who also broke the previous course record, which had stood since March 2017, to finish second in 50-39.

A good day for host club Banbury Star Cyclists' Club saw Josh Newbould complete the podium positions placing third in 52-28.

Anthony Harriss (Banbury Star Cyclists' Club) was quickest veteran on scratch placing fifth overall in 53-03.

Veteran rider De Pennington broke the long-standing women’s course record which had been in place since March 2012.

Her winning time of 58 minutes and 27 seconds was comfortable enough for victory by over two minutes.

De Pennington had finished third in the Coventry CC 10 and Oxonian CC 30 but was a clear winner on this occasion.

Sian Marsh (Banbury Star Cyclists' Club) was second in 1-00-49 while a further 45 seconds back was Emma Bexson (Stratford Cycling Club) who finished in 1-01-34.
