Zach Herrod (AeroLab Ward Wheelz) continued his strong start to the season by clinching victory in the Kings Lynn CC 10 by 11 seconds, while Matilde Pauls (1904RT) was a convincing women’s winner on her first outing of the season.
Herrod, from Beccles in Suffolk, had only won one individual open event before this season but has now won two more events in as many weeks.
The 23-year-old put in a fine ride in Norfolk on Saturday clocking a winning time of 20 minutes dead – an average speed of 30 miles per hour adding to his win in last week’s CC Breckland 10.
Warm and sunny conditions greeted riders at the start south of Tottenhill as competitors were treated to a tailwind as they headed south westerly down the A10.
After turning at the first roundabout at Downham Market they battled a crosswind on the bottom section of the triangle shaped course.
The final and longest leg of the course saw riders battle a headwind along the A134 as they headed back north to the finish.
With no climbs to face but a rolling gradient Herrod was pushed all the way for victory by Ben Stancombe (Peterborough CC) who eventually finished 11 seconds down in 20-11.
Under-23 rider Timothy Torie (TBW23 Stuart Hall Cycling P/b Trainsharp) finished third a further six seconds back (20-17).
Quickest veterans Jamie Sparrow (Kings Lynn CC) and Daniel Bloy (Team Velovelocity) shared seventh position in 21-40 but it was Bloy who took the aged 40-49 category prize.
John Bradbury (CC Sudbury) was fastest in the age category 50-59 in 22-04, Keith Dorling (Team Bottrill) quickest 60-69 in 22-06 while Chris Nudds (CC Breckland) was fastest 70-79 in 24-20.
Paracyclist Ryan Gray (Ride Harder) finished in 22-31 while Mark Eastwood (West Suffolk Wheelers) was first tricycle in 30-14.
Meanwhile, fastest juvenile was William Horspool (Boston Wheelers CC) in 25-44.
Team Velovelocity won the team award with Bloy joined by Ben Keeley and Geoff Frost to make a cumulative time of 1-06-13.
In the women’s event Pauls, aged 37, took victory on her first outing of the season clocking a time of 22-59.
Pauls finished 11th in the National 10-mile Championships last season and 13th in the National Closed Circuit and showed her early season form in Norfolk.
Veteran Verity Smith (Loose Cannon's Conditioning) finished second in 23-59 ahead of Rebecca Johnson (Stowmarket & District CC) in third (24-44).
Fastest junior girl was Bethany Spencer (Kettering CC) in 26-17 while quickest juvenile was Abbey Thompson (Suffolk Youth Race Team) in 27-20.
