Frost and Hilton fastest in Devon
Lee Frost (NOPINZ-Symec Race Team) and Catherine Hilton (Sid Valley CC) were fastest male and female riders respectively as City Cycle Couriers staged a 10-mile time trial on the popular Buckfastleigh course in Devon.
37-year-old Frost, from Crewkerne, clocked a personal best time of 19-08 to take the win by 30 seconds from Blake Pond (North Devon Wheelers), while the men’s podium was completed by Robert Willcocks (RAF CA) with 19-46.
Having placed second in the Mid-Devon CC 25 the week before, this was Frost’s first win of 2020 so far. He is now targeting a ride at the National 10-Mile Championships at the end of the month.
At the turn Frost and Pond were neck and neck, both reaching that point in 9-51, but Frost eked ahead over the final five miles to take the victory.
Veteran rider Hilton covered the course in 23-06 to take the women’s prize by 18 seconds from Ellie MackMan (Cheltenham & County CC), while third fastest lady was youngster Natasha Reddy (Bianchi Dama) with 24-04.
Hilton’s ride was her first open time trial of 2020, and she managed to clock a new personal best by 16 seconds.
In other categories Andrew Perkins (Mid-Devon CC) was fastest veteran with 19-50 for fourth overall, 17 seconds ahead of the next best veteran in Gavin MacDougall (Royal Navy and Royal Marines CA).
Exeter Wheelers’ Jack Dallyn was fastest junior with 20-22 for ninth overall, 1-13 quicker than Mid-Devon CC’s Morgan Gibson with 21-35, whose team-mate Callum Start was third fastest junior with 21-38.
And of the female juniors victory went to Hannah Rainger (Propello) with 24-39, six seconds better than her rival in that category Connie McLaughlin (Tofauti Everyone Active).
The S4/10 course starts to the south of Buckfastleigh and heads north along the A38 to Ashburton before turning and heading for home.
