After suffering misfortune last weekend Christopher McNamara (Nuun-Sigma Sport-London RT) took his first open win of the season in the Southdown Velo 25, while Lucy Gadd (Storey Racing) fought to victory in the women’s event.
McNamara, aged 45, suffered a chain slip last weekend which saw him finished second, 17 seconds behind brother Simon McNamara (HuntBikeWheels.com).
However, he turned the tables this weekend and claimed an elusive first open win of the season and despite the windy conditions was the only rider to beat 50 minutes- finishing in 49-30.
The P901/25 sees riders travel down the rolling dual-carriageway A27 before doing a loop around Westhampnett solar farm and returning down the A27.
Passing the start/finish riders continue down the A27 before descending into Arundel and then climbing back out and then heading back to the finish.
McNamara was a clear victor, after three second placed finishes this season, beating Harvey McLean (Velo Club St Raphael) into second by 35 seconds.
HuntBikeWheels.com team-mates Ryan Christensen (50-23) and Simon McNamara (50-36) battled out the remaining podium spot.
The women’s race was a close competition with the top three riders separated by less than a minute.
Gadd, aged 19, was fifth junior in the National Closed Circuit Championships last season.
Her winning time on this occasion was one hour and 22 seconds, just 14 seconds quicker than Elise Sherwell (Look Mum No Hands!) in second while Kirsty McSeveney (...a3crg) completed the podium places in 1-01-11.
