Tate and Duggleby break course records in Harrogate Nova 10
GB triathlete Brit Tate and Paralympic gold medallist Adam Duggleby both broke course records on their way to victory in the Harrogate Nova CC 10-mile time trial in North Yorkshire on Saturday.
Riding on the V212, both riders set impressive new marks for the V212 course near Boroughbridge which uses the A168 tracking the A1 north and south.
Tate, the 26-year-old Team Bottrill rider from Ilkley, clocked 23-15 to win the women’s category by 16 seconds with a new course record, leaving Sarah Lewthwaite (Team Sportslab) to take second and Jennifer Newbery (Manx RC) third, over a minute further back.
And Duggleby’s time of 19-31 was also a new best for the course, giving the 35-year-old Almerico Vive le Velo rider from Leeds him the win by 1-08 from Philip Graves (VC York), while six seconds further back was Jack Levick (Rose RT) in third.
This was Duggleby’s second victory of the year in open time trials on his record, having also won the Seacroft Wheelers 10 last weekend. He was due to ride Sunday’s AND CC 25, and has also entered the Stretford Wheelers 25 next weekend.
For Tate this was her first time trial victory of the season, coming after a strong fourth place in the competitive Coalville Wheelers 10 a fortnight ago, and 16th at the National 10-Mile Championships where she set a personal best.
In other categories the fastest over-40 veteran was Richard Dean (Rockingham CC) in 20-58, which was 18 seconds better than Mark Wolstenholme (Team Swift) in second in that category.
Top junior rider was Cleveland Wheelers’ Euan Sanderson in 21-37, while in the over-50 veterans category the prize went to Peak Road Club’s Steve Gibson with 21-52 ahead of Steve Smales (Peak Road Club) in 22-27.
Fastest over-60 rider was Russ Richardson (Mountain Goat Performance Cycle Coaching) in 22-47, best over-70 was Walter Wilkinson of Harrogate Nova in 25-51, and at the other end of the age spectrum the quickest juvenile was MTS Cycle Sport’s Joseph Turnbull in 23-54.
Top tandem pairing was Rockingham CC pairing of Ala and Andy Whitehead in 24-45 ahead of Sharon Clifford and Phil Barnes (SheHair RT).
