Despite windy conditions Joe Skipper (Team Skipper) set a new course record on his way to winning the Velo Club Baracchi 50, while Hannah Peel (Team Sheffield) took the women’s victory.

Skipper, who also won the C.C. Breckland 12-hour event earlier this month, showed his endurance once again and clocked a winning time of one hour, 45 minutes and 11 seconds.

Wind hampered riders as they completed two laps of an out and back course on the A143.

Starting near Ditchingham competitors headed north east through Kirkby Cane before rising towards the turn.

Heading back south westerly riders descended back from the turn and battled down the A143 before rising again before the turn for home at Harleston.

Skipper’s time of 1-45-11 shaved eight seconds off the previous men’s course record and was 1-05 faster than his nearest challenger.

Cambridge University student Rob Walker, who won the Chronos 10, had to settle for second on this occasion finishing in 1-46-17.

Completing the men’s podium was Mark Richards (DAP Cycling Club) in 1-47-14.

Taking part in her first ever open Peel won the women’s event in a time of two hours, six minutes and 40 seconds.

She beat Sarah Harrison (Sheffield Triathlon Club) into second (2:13:27) while Chantel Coetzer (Redbridge CC) completed the podium positions a further 10 seconds back.
