Zac Herrod (Aerolab Ward Wheelz) and Becky Ridge (TPH Racing) both broke course records on their way to victory in the Diss and District CC 25-mile time trial in Norfolk on Sunday morning.

Herrod, 22 and from Beccles, clocked 51-12 to win the event by exactly one minute and lower the course record by 1-33 from Ben Stancombe’s 2019 performance.

And in the women’s category, 39-year-old Ridge clocked 1-01-11 to beat the two-year-old course record previously held by Denise Hurren by 40 seconds. Ridge’s time gave her the win in 2020 by 2-06 from Charlotte Smith (Ride Harder), while Verity Smith (Loose Cannon’s Conditioning) clocked 1-03-23 for third spot.

The win was Herrod’s first of the season, but comes after he placed ninth in the Eddie Soens Memorial Road Race earlier in the year, and he was third in the East District CA 10 last weekend behind team-mate Will Perrett and Team Vision Racing’s Jason Bouttell.

“Although I’ve ridden and won several club 10s so far, this was the first 25 of the year for me, so it was nice to take the win,” said Herrod, who is hoping to ride the National 10 and 25 later in the season.

“There was only a light breeze and a quiet early morning road made for nice riding conditions.”

This was Ridge’s second open time trial performance of 2020, and she made it two wins out of two following her win in the Orwell Velo 20 two week’s ago. She is next due to be in action in the Stowmarket & Dist CC 10 on September 6.

As well as three podium places in this event, Loose Cannon’s Conditioning also took the men’s team prize with Chapman and O’Brien teaming up with Jordan Black (59-55) to combine for a time of 2-45-22.

The popular B25/17 course uses the A1066 starting at Bressingham and proceeding westwards to the outskirts of Thetford, where riders turn and retrace.

A dry and overcast day had just a slight breeze and crosswind, making the return leg slightly easier for the riders.
