Dean Robson and Charlotte Marshall stormed to victory in Devon as the 1st Chard Wheelers held a 10-mile time trial near Feniton on Bank Holiday Monday.

32-year-old Robson (Northover VT) clocked 20-26 to take overall victory by 39 seconds from Rob Scott (City Cycle Couriers), while third was Josh Coyne (BPM Coaching), another six seconds back.

Tied for fourth were Rowan Ellis (1st Chard Wheelers) and Andy Perkins (Mid-Devon CC) – but spare a thought for Perkins who had a 20 second late start which would’ve put him second!

Junior rider Ellis was well pleased with joint fourth for the hosting club, setting a personal best time in his first ten-mile event of the year.

27-year-old Marshall, riding for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines CA, covered the S26/r10 course in 23-45 which was 38 seconds quicker than runner-up veteran Catherine Hilton (Sid Valley CC), while Anja Roeding (Exeter Wheelers) was third, another 52 seconds adrift.

At the other end of the age scale 76-year-old club stalwart John Trout won the over-70s prize, while Chris Scawn (Plymouth Corinthian CC) was top over-60 veteran and Lubos Obornik (CS Dynamo) was over-50 vet winner.

And in the women’s event, another 1st Chard Wheelers rider Wiebke Rietz was fastest over-50 female.

This was Dean Robson’s third open time trial of the season, and also his third win.

The Cullompton rider’s first victory of 2019 came in the Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers sporting 42-kilometre event on April 7, and he followed that up with a win in the Northover VT 10 on April 22 which used the same course as this 1st Chard Wheelers event and saw him go 15 seconds quicker.

The course starts and finished south of Feniton, and initially heads north east on the B3177 before joining the A30. Upon nearing the junction with the A35 riders turn around and head back down the slip road and retrace down the A30 and B3177.
