Chris Holmes edged a narrow win as Angela Carpenter set herself up for a Saturday double in the Farnborough & Camberley CC 10-mile event.
Holmes (Twickenham CC) could well have powered to his best time in open time trialling over the 10-mile distance on Saturday but was pushed to the end, taking victory by a narrow four seconds.
Starting eighth on the day, Holmes was the first rider under 21 minutes stopping the timekeeper’s watch on 20-35 but had an agonising wait to hear of his fate.
45 minutes later a huge sigh of relief will have been expressed as last rider out Alan Murchison (Drag2Zero) failed to match the time set – Murchison cooking up a time of 20-39.
47-year-old Chef Murchison should be content with an encouraging start to the season with a victory the previous weekend.
Alex Bradley (Oxford University CC) equalled his best finish of 2018 after coming home in third place with a time of 20-57.
Angela Carpenter (a3crg) made it two wins in two races as she took the women’s category plaudits.
The veteran continued her fine recent form after victory last weekend, powering along the relatively flat and straight H10/8 course in 22-51.
Her closest challenger came in the form of Jennifer George (Torelli) who crossed the line in 23-33, forty-two seconds back in her first event ridden of the year.
In other categories, Kate Wootton (Lea Valley Youth CC) was fastest junior in 24-38 as Ed Bowley (VC Londres) took the juvenile prize in 24-55.
Women’s winner Angela Carpenter went on to add another victory to her tally in her home a3crg hosted event only hours later – the report for that can be found on the CTT website!
