David Williams (Velotik RT) and Deb Hutson-Lumb (Nova Raiders) were victorious at the North Shropshire Wheelers 25-mile time trial near Hodnet in Shropshire on Sunday morning.

40-year-old Williams clocked 52-46 to take the win by more than a minute and a half. Runner-up Tim Beardmore (Nova Raiders) clocked 54-22, while the final step on the men’s podium went to Matt Davies (Holohan Coaching) with 55-28.

Hutson-Lumb, the 54-year-old Nova Raiders rider, clocked 1-01-07 to take victory in the women’s category by 35 seconds from Kate Giddings (Liverpool Century RC), while Naomi Wright (Manchester Tri) was 13 seconds further back in third.

In other categories Phil Warburton (Liverpool Phoenix CC) was the pick of the veterans on standard with +13.40, giving him the win in that category by eight seconds from CC Weymouth veteran Terry Icke, while Andy Hazell (Mid-Shropshire Wheelers) was third, 27 seconds off Warburton.

Revolutions Racing youngster Henry Bedford clocked 56-38 to take the junior prize on the D25/23t course near Hodnet, which took riders southbound from the start near the junction with the A53 and A41 near Tern Hill.

They head round Hodnet and turn off onto the A442 through Waters Upton and on to Shawbirch before returning back up.

The win is Williams’ third of the season, having previously been part of the winning team in the Shropshire CCA four-up 50km earlier this month. And as a solo rider, he took victory in the Hafren CC 10 in June.

Williams is next due to be in open time trial action in the Frodsham Wheelers two-up 10 next Saturday and the Chester RC 50 the following day.

And similarly for Hutson-Lumb, this win was by no means her first this season – and if her form continues it surely won’t be her last either.

July saw her finish as fastest female at the Hafren CC 10, as well as second in the Oswestry CC 10. She secured three wins in June in the Birkenhead North End CC 25, Shropshire CCA 25 and Hafren CC 10, and in May she won the West Cheshire TTCA 30 as well as placing fourth in the competitive Anfield BC 100.

Next weekend Hutson-Lumb will be chasing more glory in the Chester RC 50, and the following weekend she hopes to ride the West Cheshire TTCA 25.
