Charlotte Chapman and Grant Bigham were fastest female and male riders respectively as Mid-Shropshire Wheelers staged a 10-mile time trial near Telford on Saturday.
Riding for Velorunner RT Bigham, 29 and from Stone in Staffordshire, clocked 20-24 to win by 42 seconds from Matthew Davies (Holohan Coaching RT), while Christopher Halford (Wrekinsport CC) was another 30 seconds down in third.
Meanwhile in the women’s event Chapman, 22 and from Hinstock, was the fastest woman with a time of 24-01, which was just six seconds faster than Emma Serjeant (Hafren CC).
Grant Bigham, the older brother of national champion Dan Bigham, is more usually seen on the road but can turn his hand to testing if required as shown by his victorious performance on Saturday.
His performance in the Mid-Shropshire Wheelers event is a new personal best and his first appearance of 2019, having taken part in just four open time trial events in 2018.
Chapman’s victory is her fourth of the season, and if current form is anything to go by it won’t be her last win of the season.
After placing second in the Coalville Wheelers 10 back in February she was fastest woman at the Wrekinsport CC 18 in march, and then again at the VTTA Merseyside 15 later that same month.
A third place in the Mid-Shropshire Wheelers 25 in April was then followed the next weekend with a win in the Nova Raiders 25 on May 5.
Chapman will be targeting more success in the Shropshire CCA 25 a week on Thursday.
The tandem event saw the promoting club’s own Becky Lewis and Howard Lewis take the win with a time of 19-59.
Meanwhile, it also included the Liverpool District heat of the National Youth Championship.
Fastest overall was CC Bridgnorth 17-year-old George Mills-Keeling with 20-52, while Samuel Hall was second in 21-49, the 16-year-old also qualifying for the national round.
The qualifying 15-year-old boy was Henri Bedford (Revolutions Racing) with 22-24, while the 13-year-old boy going forward to the finals is Joo Cosgrove (Liverpool Century CC).
The other qualifying rider was 12-year-old girl Rebecca Woodvine (Mid-Shropshire Wh) who covered the course in 28-07.
The D10/23r course takes riders along the A442 from a start to the north of Waters Upton up to the junction with the A53 south of Hodnet before returning south.
