Graham Kemp topped the timesheets while Jill Wilkinson was fastest female in the Chester Road Club hilly 14-mile time trial in Broxton, Cheshire.

Kemp (Team Bottrill), the recently turned veteran from Flintshire, opened his 2019 campaign with the narrowest of victories.

A time of 30-09 on the hilly D14/2 gave the Team Bottrill rider, who celebrated his 40th birthday last month, his first win of the year.

Tom Brazier (Synergy RT) started ten minutes behind Kemp and just fell short in the final undulating stage, missing out on Kemp’s time by a lone second. David Williams was third, The Velotik RT rider being 57 seconds behind winner Kemp in 31-06.

Two-time National 12-hour champion and former national record holder over the distance, Jill Wilkinson (Chester RC) rode to a conclusive win in the women’s category ahead of Sarah Illidge and Milly Deer.

The 44-year-old crossed the line just over two minutes ahead of Illidge (Frodsham Wheelers), clocking 36-40 with second-placed Illidge in 38-41. Third-placed Milly Deer was a further 1-34 adrift, clocking 40-15.

Quickest veteran on standard was Gino Trasatti (North Shropshire Wheelers) who went +5.58 better than standard.

In other categories, Chris Mann was fastest junior by a considerable margin as the youngster stopped the watches on 32-04, finishing sixth overall.

Finally, Velotik RT took the team prize – David Williams, Chris Mann and Gareth Sanger posting a combined time of 1-36-53.
