Jessica Finney and Chris McNamara were top female and male in Sunday’s VC St Raphael sporting 16.5-mile event.

Road bikes winner James Horton

Meanwhile, in the road bikes category, James Horton (VC St Raphael) took victory a mere two seconds ahead of Matthew Houlberg (Portsmouth North End CC) with a time of 41-02.

McNamara (Nuun-Sigma Sport-London RT) clocked a time of 37-16, taking victory in the VC St Raphael host event by 32 seconds.

McNamara stood atop the podium six times in 2018, but failed to return there in his last seven starts, a second-place finish being the best of that bunch so a return to the winners step so early in the new year will no doubt be a relief.

His team-mate Robert Moore joined the 43-year-old on the podium, Moore clocking a 37-48 to finish ahead of Nopinz’s Gary Chambers in second, who posted a time only 16 seconds down on Moore in 38-04.

23-year-old Jessica Finney (Cycle Team OnForm) has few events on CTT record but in her third start, she made it three wins.

The promising young rider finished 1-10 ahead of Sarah Matthews (a3crg) with a time if 44-14. Matthews was second while her team-mate Kirsty McSeveney was third.

Angela Carpenter (a3crg) took victory in the road bikes race – her time of 45.25 was good enough for 15 second win over Kimberley Ashton (Caesarean CC) and would have seen her finish in third amongst the women in the specialized time trialling bikes event.
