Douglas Watson (GTR-Return to Life) made it win number three for the season so far, while Lynsey Curran (Dooley’s RT) was fastest female at the Royal Albert CC 10-mile time trial near Irvine, Scotland, on Sunday.
45-year-old Watson clocked 19-48 to take the win by 39 seconds from team-mate Chris Smart, while Graham Smith (Law Wheelers) and William Bonar (GTR Return to Life) were joint third, another 43 seconds off the pace both with 21-10.
Behind the podium places, James Cusick (Dooley’s RT) was fifth with 21-12, while Lewis Duff (GTR-Return to Life) clocked 21-28 for sixth to cap a great performance for GTR-Return to Life riders, with Matt Hennon also securing tenth for the team.
Curran, 34 and from Uplawmoor in East Renfrewshire, covered the course in 23-09 which was good enough to win the women’s category by more than two minutes from Daisy Barnes (The Racing Chance Foundation), while Patricia Baird (Inverclyde Velo) was a second further back as third fastest woman.
The event used the WW10/03 course which starts and finishes just south of Eglinton Country Park and uses the southbound A78 Irvine bypass.
Watson’s win was his third on record so far this season, but it surely won’t be his last.
After placing third in the Velo Club Vitesse 13.6-mile event back in early March, he won his own club’s 10-mile event on this same course and was also victorious in the Carrick CC 20 last weekend.
Curran raced to victory alongside James Cusick in the Dooley’s RT two-up 17-mile time trial three weeks ago, and followed that up with a solo victory in the GTR-Return to Life 10.
