Team-mates Gemma Frost and

Lewis Timmins were fastest female and male riders respectively as Alnwick CC staged a 13-mile time trial on the rolling and technical roads near Embleton, Northumberland, on Saturday morning.

The M13 course gave riders a testing course of country roads in north Northumberland with plenty of marshals and a breezy but warm day.

Timmins, 31, clocked 27-43 to take the overall victory by 47 seconds from Phil Hall (Breeze Bikes), with Lewis Wake (Team Kirkley Cycles) third, another 20 seconds back.

And in the women’s event Frost covered the course in 31-56 which was almost two minutes quicker than Jen McMahon (Muckle CC), while third spot went to Gemma Hutchins (Blaydon CC).

Frost has been racing quite a bit recently in preparation for Challenge Roth in Germany early next month and welcomed the opportunity to do a shorter ride as part of her block of training.

She said after the event: “The conditions were a bit challenging today.  We were met with a headwind to about the six mile mark and I don’t think we got much benefit at all by the tailwind on the way back! Consequently, my time was down over a minute from last season which is a bit disappointing.

“This course is quite technical – it was great that additional marshals had been positioned to remind you about the tricky sections.”

Timmins echoed her feelings about the challenging conditions, and said: “I’m happy to finally get another TT win under my belt, and especially this one at Alnwick -  it’s an event which I’ve enjoyed coming to for the past three years, and thankfully I managed to get the first win in it today.

“The conditions were a lot tougher than expected in that breeze today, and as Gemma has said, you didn’t really get much help on the run back in.  Knowing that you’re up against the likes of Phil Hall and Daniel Dixon, ensures that you push all the way throughout the entire race.”

A total of 11 riders out of 77 finishers completed the course in under 30 minutes. Craig Usher of North Tyneside Riders was competing in his first ever TT, but sadly punctured very early on in his effort.

Second-placed Phil Hall was the fastest veteran as well as a member of the winning team alongside Terry Fountain and Ian Simon.

Peter Davison and Lisa Williams were the fastest male and female riders from the hosting Alnwick CC, while in the road bike category Jon Bayley (Reifen Racing) was quickest in 30:39 and Christopher Wayman of EMC second in 31:18. And for the ladies Sarah Wilkinson of Blaydon CC was first in 34:28, and in second place, Jane Aston in 38:21 also of Blaydon CC.
