Veterans Jon Simpkins and Denise Burrows were the male and female winners as VC Sevale staged a 10-mile time trial in Warwickshire on Saturday.
Simpkins, the 47-year-old Drag2zero rider, clocked 21-21 for the K46/10 course near Severn Stoke to win by 18 seconds from Simon Adcook (Team Bottrill), while just five seconds further back was junior talent Jamieson Blain (Zappi’s RT) in third place overall.
Burrows, the 40-year-old who rides for The Cycle Studio-Core Telecom-RPC, covered the course in 24-49 to win the women’s prize by just 21 seconds from Malvern Tri Club’s Vikki Sivertsen.
In other categories, the two-up event was won by Craig Mckee and Jack O’Neill (Team Jewson-MI Racing) with 20-39, just five seconds quicker than runners-up Simon Garrett and Tim Wood (Team Echelon).
The course takes riders from a start near Kinnersley onto the A38 and southwards before the turn and heading back towards Severn Stoke.
Simpkins was only one second faster than 12 months previously when he placed third in the same event, while according to his CTT records his personal best for this course came in 2016 when he clocked 21-19.
Burrows’ time of 24-49 was almost two minutes quicker than she managed in the same event 12 months earlier when she had to settle for sixth spot.
Simpkins will next be in open TT action next Saturday, April 6, when he plans to ride the VTTA Midlands 15.
Burrows is next in action on April 7 in round two of the Sigma Sports Classic Series event on the K22/37 course at Great Witley, and has also entered the Stratford CC 10 the following Saturday.
